Interactive Media and Creativity - AI-Aided Poster or Presentation Design

AI-Aided Poster or Presentation Design teaches students to use AI as a creative collaborator in visual communication—and to make intentional choices about when to follow the AI's suggestions and when to override them. Using tools like Canva Magic Studio, Gamma AI, or Figma AI, students produce a polished design artifact that reflects genuine creative decision-making.

Students begin by studying examples of effective poster and presentation design, developing criteria for what makes visual communication clear, compelling, and appropriate for its audience. They identify design principles—hierarchy, contrast, alignment, and white space—that they'll apply throughout the lesson.

From there, students use AI tools to generate initial layout and design suggestions from prompts, then work critically through the output: keeping what serves their purpose, revising what doesn't, and making choices the AI couldn't make for them. The lesson reinforces that AI-generated design is a starting point, not a destination.

Multiple rounds of peer feedback are built into the workflow, with students evaluating each other's designs against the criteria they established at the start. Revision is treated as a normal, valuable part of the process—not a sign that something went wrong.

Students leave with a completed, polished design artifact and practical experience using AI tools in a professional creative workflow.
