Creating AI-Generated Music for Multimedia puts students in the role of composer—using AI as their instrument. Through hands-on experimentation with AI music platforms, students generate original audio tracks and explore how musical choices like tempo, mood, genre, and instrumentation affect the emotional impact of multimedia content.

Students begin by studying examples of music in context: the same scene from a short film scored three different ways, each producing a completely different emotional response. The exercise builds musical literacy and a vocabulary for talking about how sound shapes meaning.

From there, students use AI music tools to generate tracks for a specific multimedia project—a short video, an animation loop, or a digital story. They work iteratively, adjusting parameters and regenerating until the music fits the mood and purpose they're after.

The lesson digs into the larger questions AI music raises: What does it mean to compose music if AI generates the notes? Who owns AI-generated audio? How is this technology already changing film scoring, advertising, and independent media production?

Students leave with an original AI-composed audio track and a much richer sense of music as a design decision.
