Intermediate Civics and Economics
Intermediate Civics and Economics introduces students to how the United States government and economy work, and how these systems connect to everyday life.
Students begin by exploring early American history, including colonial America and the foundational documents that shaped the nation, such as the Constitution. From there, they learn how the U.S. government is organized, with clear explanations of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. Lessons also cover elections, voting, public opinion, and the important roles played by state and local governments.
Throughout the course, students build practical citizenship skills that help them understand their rights and responsibilities and encourage informed participation in their communities, now and in the future.
The economics portion introduces students to the free enterprise system that forms the foundation of the U.S. economy. They learn how economic growth is measured, explore different types of businesses, examine how government budgets are created, and understand the role the government plays in the economy.
Students also develop essential personal finance skills, including budgeting, saving, and responsible credit use. Additional topics include the role of banks, international trade, different economic systems around the world, and how countries are economically connected in today’s global economy.
