K12 AI Labs: Module 7, Lesson 25

AI Avatar Presentation introduces students to one of the most striking frontiers of AI-generated media—the AI avatar—and challenges them to use the technology purposefully, creatively, and responsibly. Using tools like HeyGen or HourOne, students design and produce a 30–60 second avatar presentation tailored to a real audience and a clear message.

Students begin by exploring the current landscape of AI avatar technology: where it's being used, how it works, and the range of responses it generates—from fascination to discomfort. They examine examples across marketing, education, and entertainment, developing criteria for avatar presentations that are effective and appropriate versus those that feel deceptive or manipulative.

From there, students develop a creative brief: defining the purpose of their presentation, the specific audience it's addressing, and the message it needs to deliver. They write and refine a script, make deliberate choices about avatar appearance and voice, and produce their finished video with feedback and revision built into the process.

The lesson gives significant space to the ethical questions AI avatars raise—around synthetic media, deepfakes, consent, and the future of authenticity in video communication. Students grapple with these questions as practitioners, not just observers.

Students leave with a completed avatar presentation and a nuanced understanding of AI-generated media that will serve them well in a world where this technology is becoming ubiquitous.
